Mom's Getting Child Support

Child Support can be a curse or a God-send, it depends on your situation. My experience with Child Support was a unique one.

I was getting regular child support each month for my two teens. My ex-husband was sending the payment on a regular basis.

Then the unimaginable happened. I had filled out a form for my children for school to let the school know that they would not qualify for free lunches because I had a regular income and I was receiving child support. Well, they investigated the child support with the State of Texas. Shortly thereafter, I received a letter from the Attorney General's Office asking if I wanted to pursue having my child support garnished from my ex-husband's paycheck. I never sent back the form, but a couple month's later I received a text message from my ex saying that his wages were being garnished for child support for my two children.

After further investigation, the Attorney General's office had taken it upon themselves to start garnishing his wages, and I was also getting the back child support that was owed to me (6 1/2 years behind).

Now, I can be happy about this matter or I can be upset that they stopped my regular payments. I'm choosing to be happy for the simple matter of I deserve it. I deserve to get all the monies owed to me for the years he's behind. I deserve to be able to buy my children the things they need without having to beg for extra money. Not that my children ever went without, but because of not receiving the child support I was owed, I lost a house to foreclosure, I had two vehicles repossed and I had to start my life over in a new city.

Because he chooses not to take care of his responsibilities, he is losing his house to foreclosure now. I guess what they say, "What comes around, goes around" is true.

So for all those Mom's out there that aren't getting the child support they deserve...make the call...go to the website, whatever you have to do to get in touch with the State's authorities on child support...GET IT! You deserve it, your children deserve it, and you didn't conceive those children on your own.

Don't worry about his feelings (or her feelings if you are a Dad with custody). Afterall, your ex-spouse didn't consider how you would feel raising those children on your own.

Handling Sibling Rivalry

Well, a week has passed and my kids haven't killed each other yet. Sibling Rivalry is going strong in my household. Each child is very bright and talented, however, there is a lot of competition for affection and acknowledgment.

Honestly, I have no idea why they compete and fight so much since we don't play favorites and treat both children with equality and support. So, here's my problem and how I handle it.

Problem - getting my children to stop fighting over petty things.

My remedy - I separate them. Talk to them separately and ask why the problem occured. After I get both sides of the story, I play referee. I make sure I don't take sides until I get all the details.

I always try to get them to work together and not to fight, especially when they start fighting each other physically. As a last resort, I separate them even though they are both teens, I put them in a time-out of sorts. I let cooler heads prevail and try to keep it as fair as possible in my house.

I would love to hear your sibling problems and let my "Board of Moms" answer your problem.

Have a blessed day!

Training the New Puppy

Training a new puppy can be so frustrating. Potty messes throughout the house, shoes in rooms you never go, chewed up computer power wires...it's enough to almost make you insane. However...there is a remedy, and that's what we are all about here...Remedies to Problems.

Here's a terrific article from Drs. Foster & Smith on puppy training.

Teens and How To Deal With Their Quirks

Teenagers and how to deal with their quirks. One Mom's advice was after 14 the teen thinks they know everything and you, the parent, is stupid and never had the problems they are going through.

Now, the remedy....listen, watch their mannerisms, keep track of what they are wearing to school, and then have a "sit down" with them. Don't confront them, just have a quiet chat about school and how they are coping with situations that you know have come up with them.

Don't allow them to disrespect you. That won't solve any problems. What the teen needs is someone to talk to that they trust. Don't try to be their best bud and don't interrupt them if they are talking. That shows them that you respect their time and opinion and in turn they will respect you more.

YOU HAVE TO SHOW AN INTEREST in them. Too many parents work long hours and expect that the kids can care for themselves at this age. You are still the parent and you still have responsibilities to that until your teen decides it's time to strike out on their own. Even then, you will still worry. But it gets easier as they show you they are making it on their own with a job and paying their own bills.

Good luck! You and every parent like you with teens will need it to keep your sanity during this time.

God, Kids, Husband, Work, etc.

Today is my anniversary...however, after running to town to the doctor's office for my daughter's check up, running her back to school, going to the grocery store, catching a quick nap to compensate for getting up early and then getting up because my mind is going a hundred miles a minute with work ideas...I haven't had time for my husband or celebrating my anniversary.

Has it just become another day in history? Do people still get romantic anymore with life moving so fast?

I already know my husband is feeling very neglected. I have every intention of apologizing for the inattention and trying to make it up to him.

I've been this road before, where anniversaries were just another day. Nevertheless, that wedding anniversary became null and void with the divorce.

Therefore, I'm going to take a stand (as soon as I update my autoresponder) and take my husband out to a late lunch and then come home and cuddle with him until the children get home.

I hope you have hugged your significant other today...let them know how much they mean to you and don't take them for granted....those things (ideas) swimming in your thoughts will wait 30 minutes while you let your SO know how much you care.

Remember God first, then loved ones...then work. You will always be happy & blessed that way.
